A history lesson at San Simón Island
Last week, Year 4 students of O Castro British School enjoyed an original history class in a unique environment, San Simón Island. They could learn a lot about the past of one of the most beautiful enclaves in the Ría de Vigo.
The visit began at the Meirande museum. From there, the children enjoyed a guided tour trough the island. They learned about its history in recent centuries: as a prison, as a point of disembarkation of corsairs, their role in the battle against French or as an isolation center for the sick. In addition, in each of the enclaves, the artistic characteristics of the buildings and constructions of the island were also explained.
At the end of the visit, they conducted a treasure hunt that put to the test information about the history of this unique islet. And as a finale to an exciting day on art and history, the children enjoyed a delicious lunch on the boat with fantastic views to our Ría.
