More than half a hundred students between 11 and 16 years old participate in the First School Debate Event
Last Saturday, O Castro British School hosted the 1st School Debate Event, organized by WEDU Society & Education and sponsored by O Castro British School, with a resounding success, with fifty participants and more than 150 attendees.
Twelve school teams, in the last year groups of Primary and Secondary from different schools and Associations in Vigo and surrounding (HH Carmelitas, O Castro British School, Colegio Estudio, Escuela Rosalía de Castro, Inventiva Asociación y Aldeas Infantiles), met in the first edition of this event, which was born with a clear vocation for continuity.
During the event, 60 boys and girls aged between 11 and 16 years old, disputed a dialectic battle throughout three discussion rounds, in which topics like the influence of social networks in personal relations, forbidding Zoos or whether or not school homework is a positive thing, will be discussed.
The finalists of the meeting, which was held under the modality of academic debate, were O Castro British School, the Inventiva association and the Estudio school. The participants made a very complete defense of their positions, highlighting their great dialectical capacity, research and agility when it comes to counteracting their opponents.

In addition, the event was attended by Iván Olmos Ferreiro, national runner-up in debate and world’s runner-up in speeches in Spanish. He being part of the panel of judges and offered a motivating talk under the title “Why can knowing how to speak in public change your life?”.
