Our School History

O Castro British School is the first British school in Vigo and the only one in Galicia to offer all educational stages. It was founded in 2008 by María Carmen Vázquez González, alma mater of the renowned educational group O Castro since 1968. Furthermore, since 2014, it is the only Cambridge School in Galicia. In 2017 O Castro joined Globeducate group, one of the five largest international school groups in the world, to continue adding to its efforts to offer its students an education with international projection for the global world of the 21st century.

Why choose a British School?

The quality and prestige of the British education system is respected and recognized worldwide. Its curriculum, the National Curriculum of England, is specially designed to respond to the specific needs of each child, through a wide range of learning experiences, which motivate and stimulate students and identify their own talents.

Our curriculum follows the National Curriculum of England and the core subjects of the Spanish curriculum in the Community of Galicia (Spanish Language and Literature, Galician Language and Literature and Social Sciences / Geography&History). It is recognized by the British Council, accredited by the NABSS (Association of British Schools in Spain) and approved by the Xunta de Galicia.

Our goal: to encourage and nurture the students’ desire to learn, with particular emphasis being placed on the development of learning skills and of critical thinking, which encourages our students to question everything that surrounds them. Our students learn to actively seek answers to their own questions. British Examination certificates – The IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) and A-Levels (Advanced Levels) – the most prestigious qualifications, allow access to the most distinguished universities worldwide.

Our core principles

Educational Excellence helping our students to develop their skills and talents, using innovative teaching methods, in a personalized and supportive learning environment.

Global Readiness. Our students are immersed in the English language from the first day of school, with native English speaking teachers at all educational stages. Spanish, French and Galician are also taught as part of the curriculum.

More than just a school. We provide our students with a wide range of enriching opportunities in and out of the classroom, through sport, music and the creative arts.

Education by Values is the basis of our entire educational programme. We aim to develop a personal value system in our students that includes respect, tolerance, compassion, commitment and a sense of social and personal responsibility; values that they should carry with them into the future.
