Much more than just learning the Language
At O Castro British School, English lessons involve so much more than just learning the language. In Upper Key Stage Two (Year 5 and 6) students are now independent users of the English language. Thei level of English is constantly improving and they were able to express their thoughts and ideas clearly.
During this stage (UKS2) students use their skills in the language in order to access real texts, videos and audios from native speakers. They read biographies and autobiographies, fairy tales and fantasy stories. They even start to study Shakespeare and classic children’s such as ‘The Lion, the Witch and the Wardrobe’ by CS Lewis.
In Year 5 and Year 6 students can write newspaper articles, participate in debates and give their opinions clearly and accurately. They not only study poetry but also have the resources to write it as well. They work as individuals and in groups, so that as well as developing thei English skills they are also developing life skills.
At O Castro British School, the classes involve more than just learning the English language. Our students learn how to use it in a purposeful way. After all, as Anton Chekhov, the famous Russian playwright said, ‘Learning is of no value, unless you put it into practice.’
