In addition to the basic requirements of the official curriculum, students at O Castro British School receive an extensive musical education. We believe that music plays a fundamental role in the all-round education and personal development of our students. Music helps to improve cognitive development and memory and encourages self-discipline, perseverance, sensitivity, organisation, cooperation and accuracy. These skills are transferable and can help to improve and enhance many other areas of our students’ academic and personal lives.
All our students learn to play at least one stringed or wind instrument and are encouraged to participate in performances for their classmates and concerts for the wider school community. Students who wish to develop their musical skills further can continue to perfect their musical knowledge and skills as part of the extracurricular programme.
