Third Annual School Debate ‘Meet’

Once again, O Castro British School is hosting and sponsoring the 3rd School Debate Meet organized by the Association of Public Speaking and Debate (CODE) with the collaboration of WEDU Society & Education.
This year, due to the particular circumstances we are living through, the event will take place online. In order to enjoy the debating skills of our young students we have had to adapt to the current situation, prioritizing the safety of all the participants.
The tournament will take place over three days between Thursday, June 18th and Saturday, June 20th. A maximum of twenty four teams will participate, consisting of two members each, representing different educational centres and associations in and around Vigo and its area, among them O Castro British School, Colegio Estudio, Colegio Apóstol, Carmelitas, Inventiva Asociación and Colegio Ángel de la Guarda.

This third edition will take place under the format of the British Parliament (BP), one of the competition debating formats most widely used across the globe. This model has one particular stipulation: topics to be debated are not announced in advance, but are communicated at the same time that the competition begins, giving participants fifteen minutes to prepare the position they have to defend. In a similar vein the position (for or against) will also be decided by drawing lots on the day.
Participants can now consult and download the rules, as well as the registration form, here:

In this third edition of the School Debate Meeting, the youngest will also have their opportunity via the Public Speaking Contest, aimed at children from 3rd to 6th grade of Primary of Speaking and Debate activity, where they will have the opportunity to demonstrate their communication skills with a speech.
All the participants will record, to audio, a speech with a maximum length of one minute under the title “My Favourite Word”. The most highly ranked speeches will be announced at the closing of the III School Debate Meet on Saturday 20th June.
